Carol and La Maison du Chocolate

Following my bright idea to treat myself with a night in, I thought I’d repeat the experience!

This time I chose Carol and La Maison du Chocolat’s gorgeous dark chocolate covered orangettes and it was a good decision! Fine strips of candied orange peels, delicately covered by a thin layer of dark chocolate – such a delightful indulgence!

Carol is a groundbreaking film. It took 20 years to get this controversial story made into a film and it was only when Cate Blanchett took on the role that the project made possible.

It tells the story of a prohibited relationship between two women in 1950’s America. Carol (Cate Blanchett), an elegant upperclass woman and mother is going through a tricky divorce. She meets and quickly becomes infatuated with Therese, a quirky Manhattan department store girl played by Rooney Mara. Their relationship escalates into an intense affair with complicated implications. The cinematography of this film is breathtaking and, considering recent events in Orlando, faces incredibly relevant subject matter, treated in a gentle and empathetic manner.

Join me in these indulgent little nights in – collect your choccies from the Selfridges or Harrods La Maison du Chocolat boutiques and enjoy!
