Romania’s largest exporter of wine, Cramele Recas is celebrating a Gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards. The Wildflower Pinot Grigio 2019, available in Spar in the UK fared well with this year’s judges being awarded 95 points. The Decanter World Wine Awards is the world’s largest and most influential wine competition which completed judging under strict Covid safety guidelines earlier this year.
If you head over to their Twitter @cramelerecaseu they’re currently doing a competition to WIN a bottle!
The Wildflower Pinot Grigio 2019 is made from handpicked grapes from the vineyards in the Banat region of Western Romania.
On the nose, you’ll find opulent aromas of grapefruit and peach which follow through to a lithe body, with abundant melon and apple character and a citrusy acidity.
Paired well with a chicken Penang curry, this wine is best served at 8 – 10 degrees centigrade.
The celebrations for Cramele Recas don’t end there, as this year they’ve had a record showing at the Decanter World Wine Awards with one Gold, three Silver, 18 Bronze and five Commended entries in total.
Bristol-born Philip Cox, commercial director and founder says, “I am so thrilled that our Wildflower Pinot Grigio has been awarded this prestigious medal. We’re so pleased that the results this year reflect our conscious commitment to producing great wines that overdeliver on value and quality”.
The Cramele Recas estate benefits from a warm continental climate, located in the South West of Romania near the City of Timisoara, sitting on the same latitude as Bordeaux. Since 1998, the company has replanted on ancient vineyard sites with state-of-the-art vineyards. This mix of traditionalism and modernity is perfectly expressed through the Wildflower Pinot Grigio 2019. Since 2019, all of Cramele Recas wines have the added benefit of being certified vegan.
The Wildflower Pinot Grigio 2019 is available at Spar stores in the UK, RRP £7 and O’Briens Wine in Ireland.
