Clementine Communications took the press to Romania this week to visit Cramele Recas and other significant wineries across the country.
Arriving a week after they finished harvest, we heard just how successful this year had been. The team harvested 29,500,505kg of grapes, which is a record for Cramele Recas! They worked extremely hard to meet the increasing global customer demand for more wine, demonstrated in the 2,735 tractor loads of grapes from the estate, plus 415 large truckloads from partner growers around the country. That’s 328 tanks full of wine and around 22 million liters in total!
The first stop of our trip was to the west, to Timisoara, where we explored the historic city center and finished the day with a dinner together with the Cramele Recas team. The next day we spent at the Cramele Recas winery together with Bristol-born Commercial Director Philip Cox, visiting the 1,250ha vineyards and tasting the 65 different wines. We then flew to Bucharest to explore the wineries of Avincis, Stirbey, Serve Ceptura and Buduresasca.
After a brilliant 5 days, we’ve learned more about producers’ views and plans regarding style, varieties planted, vineyard management, markets, exports and the current perception of Romanian wine. And after tasting the interesting and diverse wines of Romania and Cramele Recas, we predict a very exciting year for Romanian wines!
